JEE [Mains] exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year in January and April for admission to various engineering colleges in India. JEE [Mains] has two papers, Paper -1 and Paper- 2. Candidates have options to apply either or both of them. Paper 1 is for admission to B.E/B. Tech while Paper 2 is for admission to B.Arch and B.Planning (Paper 3 from January 2020) courses. Paper 1 is conducted online and Paper-2 is conducted offline only. Paper 1 comprises of multiple-choice questions and numerical questions whereas Paper 2 comprises of objective questions for both Math and Aptitude, numerical questions for Math and questions for the drawing section.
Paper 1 has 3 subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each section will have 20 MCQ and 5 numerical problems. The total number of questions in Paper 1 will be 75 and total marks would be 300
. For each incorrect answer in MCQs, 1 mark will be deducted while every correct answer will reward 4 marks. Questions for which answers have a Numeric Value will fetch 4 marks for every correct response, with no negative marking in case of an incorrect answer or unattempted question.
Paper- 2: B. Arch Paper will have a total of 77 questions for 400 marks. The question paper of B. Planning shall include 100 questions for 400 marks. Drawing Test in B. Arch paper will have 2 questions for 50 marks each.
All the papers will have a duration of 3 hours. If the candidate sits for both B.Arch and B.Planning, the exam duration will be 3 hours and 30 minutes. Papers will be available in English and Hindi for all JEE [
Mains] Exam Centers. Centres in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli will also have the option of Gujarati.
Qualifying JEE [Mains] makes you eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFITs across India. For admission to IITs, you will have to appear for JEE Advance after JEE [Mains].
